What Security Means to Us: Privacy Awareness Week 2025

-privacy-online

This year’s Privacy Awareness Week theme – privacy is everyone’s business – has sparked some questions and debate amongst our team about our role in protecting our customers’ businesses and data.

How can we best safeguard our customers’ valuable data?

What infrastructure can we invest in to make our security offering even stronger?

Where can we offer more support to help customers protect their own data?

It’s important to take the time to ask these types of questions about security and responsibility. After all, security isn’t just about applying expert know-how about the right tools and technology – it’s about helping our customers protect themselves everyday through regular checks, consistent business practices, and knowledge sharing.

Here’s how we approach security through three key pillars:

  1. Advocacy for Strong and Consistent Business Practices

In our own business, we must adhere to strict data protection policies, ensuring compliance with regulations like Australia’s Privacy Act 1988. This approach includes:

  • Ethical data handling: We never sell or misuse customer data.
  • End-to-end encryption: We specialise in secure voice using our cloud PBX secure platform, and firewall solutions.
  • No hidden fees: We provide one clear invoice, so you know exactly what you’re paying for.

We’re always seeking ways to integrate best-in-class protections into each bespoke solution. In this same vein, we provide our customers with the support and guidance they need to integrate these same best practices into their own businesses.

2. Regular Checks are Integral to our Service

Cyber threats are changing and evolving daily. So are scams, including increases in impersonation scams and WhatsApp scams. While it’s virtually impossible to catch every scam and threat, the Comvergence team stays ahead with:

  • Frequent audits: We work hard to identify vulnerabilities before they’re exploited.
  • Regular employee training: Our team shares information and know-how to mitigate risks like phishing.
  • Regular infrastructure investment: We frequently update our private network, ensuring speed and security without compromise.

Our Melbourne-based and international engineering team work with you to ensure your systems are always protected.

3. Security Excellence is a Mindset

Technology alone can’t stop every threat – people, their actions and their attitudes make the difference.

It’s worth remembering that the most sophisticated attacks often exploit existing gaps between systems and expectations. By bridging those gaps through continuous dialogue and adaptive solutions, we can all help limit the space there is for fraud to thrive.

Creating this stronghold takes vigilance and dedication to everyone’s security and privacy. This is why Comvergence prioritises:

  • Login best practice: We recommend multi-factor authentication for all logins. There’s no one way to manage your logins, but a simple authenticator from Google or Microsoft can do a lot of the heavy lifting, as can a password manager such as LastPass.
  • 24/7 monitoring: Proactive threat detection to safeguard against cyberattacks.
  • Community education and collaborative partnerships: Helping customers recognise scams and adopt strong security practices in their own work environments.
