Phishing is where the hacker will cast the bait often in the form of an email. Disguised as legitimate business but with one thing missing, the authority of the ‘brand’ they’re acting on behalf of. Placing a sneaky link or bot within the message for one to click, fill out the simplest form of information and boom. Hook line and sinker – they’ve got you.
The scary part is how authentic these emails and fake web-pages do look. What can you do to stop these? Nothing really. But there are preventative measures you can take to try and protect your business and your employees if they’re found in this situation.
- Education is key. Constantly remind and upkeep cyber security knowledge throughout the workplace so all employees understand their role in protecting the businesses’ network.
- Double check the email address, most authentic emails that come from legitimate businesses will be formatted similar to this
Whereas phishing emails may not look like that.
- Install an anti-phishing toolbar whereby if you accidentally stumble across a malicious site the toolbar will alert you about it before fully accessing it.
